Prior to SDSC, I spent over six years at Oculus/Facebook/Meta in the Metaverse space, building and managing teams working on the first mobile VR devices, operating systems, business use cases and mixed reality frameworks. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer at SDSC, my main objective is to explore new frontiers in surgical data science and utilize cutting edge computer vision techniques to advance capabilities of artificial intelligence on surgical videos. I have a PhD in electrical engineering with a focus on statistical signal and image processing and many years of industry experience building machine / deep learning algorithms using smart devices and cameras for object detection, tracking and classification. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, hiking and playing pickleball.

As the Marketing Manager, I'm responsible for connecting SDSC to the right people who will make our vision for the future of digital surgery a reality. More practically, I work on branding, product positioning, and client acquisition. With over a decade of experience in startup marketing, I love helping category-defining organizations change the way people think about what's truly possible. My past experience has been entirely with companies redefining their industries by harnessing technology to change the way people interact—whether that's shopping, communicating, or transferring knowledge. Outside of work, I like to perform with my improv team, travel, and spend time with my friends and family.

I'm a generalist systems engineer, with a background in mobile operating systems and high-scale cloud platforms. I join SDSC as a technical lead, from my restored farmhouse in Galicia, Spain.

As Chief Operating Officer of Surgical Data Science Collective (SDSC) I manage all non-technology aspects of the organization, including strategy, finance, legal, partnerships, and human resources. I have extensive experience in international business, entrepreneurship, angel investing, and nonprofit governance and finance. I believe in a future where surgical data and AI are harnessed to save lives by making quality surgical care available across the globe. I enjoy my family, museums, books, cooking, and spending time in wild places.

My previous work experience includes the British Army, the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office, McKinsey & Company, and Meta, and spans leadership roles, people management, human resources, and operations. Outside of work, I'm a keen equestrian, bibliophile, and adventurer.

As a Computer Vision/ Machine Learning Engineer at Surgical Data Science Collective (SDSC), I am passionate about building reliable, intelligent surgical tools to streamline surgeons’ workflows and improve patient outcomes. My current work includes tool detection in surgical videos and building a robust evaluation system for deployed models. Outside of work, I like reading fantasy books, playing video games, weightlifting, and trying new coffee shops.

As Community Manager, I am responsible for understanding the needs of the surgeons that use our platform, and for helping these surgeons get the most out of our platform for their practice. At the age of 14, I was so passionate about food & flavor that I thought I would become a chef. My experiences cooking, managing gardens, beekeeping, and brewing helped me realize that my true calling was really to help people grow and connect. Prior to SDSC, I spent a few years at AB-InBev and DIG in technical project management roles, and Brooklyn Grange as a teaching assistant. I pride myself on my ability to merge human need-states with technology and product; I am looking forward to further exploring this within the medical community.
